Incentives

Scientific Research & Experiential Development (SR&ED)

The SR&ED tax incentives encourage businesses of all sizes and in all sectors to conduct research and development in Canada. Most Canadian-controlled private corporations (CCPC) can earn a refundable input tax credit at the enhanced rate of 35% on qualified SR&ED expenditures up to the maximum expenditure limit of $3 million. Or a non-refundable input tax credit can be earned at the basic rate of 15% on an amount over your expenditure limit.


Canada-Ontario Job Grant (COJG)

COJG provides direct financial support to individual employers who wish to purchase training for their employees. It is available to small, medium and large businesses with a plan to deliver short-term training to existing and new employees. Employers can get up to $10,000 in government support per person for training costs. 


National Research Council Industrial Research and Assistance Program (IRAP) 

IRAP provides funding to support research and development projects at various stages of the innovation cycle. NRC IRAP was mandated to expand its support to include an increased funding threshold of up to $10 million for larger research and development projects.


MITACS Accelerate

MITACS pairs companies with over 50 research-based universities to access graduate students that can help develop a body of work to overcome innovation challenges. Up to $15,000 is available in funding; partner organizations must contribute $7,500.


CanExport SMEs

Small and medium sized companies may access up to $50,000 in funding to assist with international market development activities.


CanExport Innovation

Innovators from Canadian organizations may access up to $75,000 in funding to assist with research and development (R&D) for a single technology.


Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) Grant

CSJ provides wage subsidies to employers from not-for-profit organizations, the public sector, and private sector organizations with 50 or fewer full-time employees, to create quality summer work experiences for young people aged 15 to 30 years.


Ontario Computer Animation & Special Effects (OCASE)

The OCASE Tax Credit is a refundable tax credit to Ontario-based Canadian and foreign-controlled corporations for 18% of qualifying Ontario labour expenditures for computer animation and special effects activities created in Ontario.
