Access emerging student talent for your business. Work placements are a win-win for employers and students.
Through this grant initiative, employers in Markham and York Region can apply for financial support to help them hire talented post-secondary students from specialized areas of study.
Employers gain hands-on support with business challenges, while students gain paid, real-world experience through Work Integrated Learning (WIL) - where learning happens by working on meaningful projects that deliver results.
These diverse fields include international business, marketing, software development, engineering, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and crime intelligence.
Program Details:
- 10 awarded SMEs will receive a $1,500 non-repayable hiring grant per student;
- WIL placement will be short term and project-based, providing support for business challenges, offering new perspectives and opportunities for growth;
- Student placements will begin May 4, 2026.
Program Timeline:
- We are currently accepting applications for Spring 2026 (Funding Term: May 4 to August 14 2026).
- Applications Open: February 4 – March 14
- Applications Awarded: April 1st
- Student Start Date: May 4
Employers must be:
- A Registered, Canadian for-Profit business located in the York Region;
- Have a maximum of 499 employees;
- Committed to providing a quality work-integrated learning experience to a post-secondary student;
- Has not previously hired a post-secondary student from Seneca Polytechnic.
