Markham Economic Development team has been selected as a finalist for the 2025 EDCO Awards of Excellence in the Business Attraction and Retention – Urban category.
This recognition highlights the strong collaboration between the Markham Small Business Centre, YSpace, and the Black Entrepreneurship Alliance (BEA) through the Founder Fundamentals Certificate Program.
Supporting Entrepreneurs Through Founder Fundamentals
The Founder Fundamentals Certificate Program is a free, skills-focused training series that equips aspiring and early-stage entrepreneurs with essential knowledge to start and grow their businesses. Delivered with YSpace and BEA, the program offers:
- Core workshops on business planning, marketing, finance, and customer development
- Expert instructors and ecosystem partners
- A digital certificate upon completion
Since launching, the program has equipped hundreds of participants with foundational knowledge and a supportive network, contributing directly to Markham’s thriving innovation and small business ecosystem.

Winners of the 2025 EDCO Awards of Excellence will be announced at EDCO’s President’s Dinner on February 4, 2026.
